Discover Non-Toxic Solutions that Will Help Keep You and Your Family Clean and Safe!

How many cleaning products do you use…and are they safe? Are your makeup and skincare products free of chemicals and nasty toxins?

There’s practically nothing that’s really safe anymore. Yet there are things you can do to protect yourself: make the products yourself so you know what’s in them…or do your due diligence by monitoring product labels and finding reputable suppliers and organic certified products that are free from toxic chemicals, fragrances, and additives that are harmful to your health.

Here are some cleaning products I’ve used that you can make right at home that will help you eliminate some of the chemicals that come in contact with your body:

Laundry Detergent

1 cup soap flakes
1/2 cup washing soda
1/2 cup baking soda
1-2 tbsp. oxygen bleach (optional for extra whitening powder)

Grate your pure vegetable soap with a cheese grater. Mix together the ingredients and store in a container. Use about 1-2 tablespoons per wash.

For soft water: 1 cup soap flakes, 1/4 cup washing soda, and 1/2  cup baking soda.
For hard water: 1 cup soap flakes, 1 cup washing soda, and 1 cup baking soda.

For fabric softener: Add 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar to rinse cycle.

For a whitener, use hydrogen peroxide rather than bleach. Soak your dingy white clothes for 30 minutes in the washer with  1/2 cup 3% peroxide.

All-Purpose Cleaner

2 cups white distilled vinegar

2 cups water
20-30 or more drops of essential oil (optional but makes it smell nice – I use peppermint)

Put all ingredients in a spray container and use as an all-purpose cleaner to clean all sorts of surfaces. It’s great to remove soap scum from the glass shower, and I don’t feel like I’m going to die after cleaning it.

Glass Cleaner

2 cups of water (distilled or filtered is best so it doesn’t leave residue)
2 tablespoons vinegar
10 drops of choice- I use peppermint (optional but it smells better)

Combine ingredients in a spray bottle and use as needed to clean mirrors and windows.

Creamy Soft Scrub

2 cups baking soda
½ cup to 2/3 cup liquid Castile soap
4 teaspoons vegetable glycerin (acts as a preservative)
5 drops antibacterial essential oil such as lavender, tea tree, rosemary, or any scent you prefer (optional)

Mix together and store in a sealed glass jar. Can use on sinks, tubs, etc.

Furniture Polish

1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup white distilled vinegar
20-30 drops lemon essential oil

Shake well before using. Love how this makes the furniture look.

Hand Soap

12-ounces of Water (distilled or boiled)
2 Tablespoons Liquid Castile Soap
½ tsp liquid oil like olive or almond
Essential oils for scent (optional)

Add at least 2 tablespoons of liquid Castile soap to the water mixture. Add the oil and any essential oils if you are using them. Close and lightly shake to mix.

Hand Sanitizer

1/4 cup white distilled vinegar
1 tablespoon aloe vera gel
10 drops sweet orange or lavender essential oil
10 drops peppermint oil

Mix together and put in small spray bottles to have with you.

Liquid Dish Soap

Ingredients:
-1 1/2 cup of hot water
-1/2 cup liquid Castile soap
-1 tablespoon of white vinegar
-1 tablespoon of  Arm & Hammer’s Super Washing Soda (used to thicken the soap)

 1/2 teaspoon Glycerin
-1/8 teaspoon of essential oils (optional)

Mix everything together and put it in a squeeze bottle.

All of these recipes can be found on various sites on the internet and I thank them for sharing with the public. I hope that they also help you live a more toxic-free life!
